Independence in the Woods

We are so busy here in the McCulloch household!  John has been busy at work and still loving his job.  He is back to 4 tens now so he has Mondays off now.. That means we will probably be going on even more trips... We already do a lot of traveling and it is making this long, hot Summer seem to fly by!  I can't believe Emma is four and Owen will be two next month.  They are getting SO big!  We spent 5 days in Farmington, NM for the Independence Day Week.  First we spent the day with Pops, Noni, and Nanny McCulloch (and Brutus).

Emma loved swing that Ron whipped up.

Owen was not too sure.

We had a great 4th with the McCullochs during the day and then went to Mama and Papa Rhien's house for a big family dinner and watched the fireworks from our car.  I didn't get any pictures of Mama and Papa this time.  Bummer.  We then went to the cabin and I managed to misplace the camera for most of the time we were there.  Fortunately we did get some pictures..

We LOVE the cabin.  John was really hoping to get some good fishing in.  Unfortunately the first activity the kids have ever learned to enjoy at the cabin is throwing rocks in the lake.  We did do a little boating at Lake Navajo two days later and a little fishing off the boat but didn't catch a thing.. I even made up a song to lure the fishes in.  Maybe next time.
Emma loved being on the boat and playing on the shore at the lake.  She has been asking for months to go to the beach.  We made a little sandcastle (really a pile of smooshed sand on a flat rock.. but it was a sandcastle to her!) and did some swimming.  We hope to be able to make it to the ocean shore SOON.
The Hartles were all there next door and their dog, Boomer, really became part of the family.  Even I wanted to take him home with us.
I am so glad that we found the camera before we left the cabin because I really wanted to get a good family picture for us to hang up on the wall and give to grandparents.  I am not sure what my favorite one is.  I think I'm going to use the last one.

Thank you so much Grumps for taking the pictures for us!
